WRVS Community Services volunteers provide practical solutions to the problems of loneliness, isolation and dependence found in local communities across the UK. WRVS works with a range of organisations including social services and other charities to ensure people are helped in the best possible way.
To help people maintain independence and dignity in their homes and communities, particularly later in life.
Members of the WRVS, in partnership with the public and private sectors, are committed to being the premier providers of voluntary assistance to those in need of care within their local community. WRVS is a large, practical, voluntary organisation and volunteers are recruited from all age groups and walks of life within the community.
The WRVS operates the following services in Grampian.
Good Neighbour Schemes
Provide short-term solutions to people who are housebound or socially isolated. Good Neighbour Schemes can provide assistance with shopping, changing library books, short-term companionship, and support when just home from hospital.
Social Clubs / Activity Clubs
WRVS social and activity clubs provide social contact for people who are socially isolated. The clubs are very sociable and offer a range of activities. WRVS clubs include Aberdeen Stroke Club and Newburgh Ythan Cronies.
Social Transport Schemes
Provide one-to-one transport for people who are housebound, socially isolated or have restricted mobility. WRVS provides transport to local services and for social opportunities.
Shopping Services
Provide assistance for people who are housebound or unable to shop for, or by, themselves. Three options are available: accompanied shopping, group shopping and home delivery.
Meals on Wheels (Moray)
Is part of an overall strategy to help older or housebound people continue to live in their own homes in the community.
Teabar/Trolley Shop Services
WRVS volunteers provide trolley shop and teabar services for community hospitals and people living in care homes in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Home Library Service
For people who are unable get to the local library.
