The Cyrenians is a local voluntary organisation that provides a range of services for homeless people in Aberdeen. Margaret House was opened in 1981 and offers short-term accommodation to 12 residents. Substance misuse problems are common among the residents as is prostitution, abuse, self-harm and other psychological issues.
Clients are likely to stay at the project whilst being assisted by staff to develop the skills they need to sustain a successful move into their own tenancy.
The service will be provided for both men and women aged 16 years and over:
- whose existing care arrangements have broken down or are at risk of breaking down placing the person at risk
- where there is a high risk of family breakdown or breakdown has occurred
- who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and considered to be a vulnerable person
- whose involvement in work, training or education cannot be maintained
- who have significant health problems (including mental health or substance misuse) with a risk to safety or independence
- where abuse or neglect has occurred or may occur
- whose needs cannot be currently met through supported accommodation or a housing support service
- who demonstrate a commitment to engage with the service
- who are eligible for housing and to receive either directly or indirectly public funds and be entitled to reside in the United Kingdom
Service users utilise the service for around 6 months.
Funded by Aberdeen City Council. The building has been provided by Langstane Housing Association.
