The Cyrenians is a voluntary organisation that has provided a range of services for homeless people in Aberdeen since 1968.
To meet the needs of people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or affected by homelessness in any way
The Cyrenians provides opportunities for individuals to get into permanent accommodation, support to ensure that they are able to keep their accommodation by tackling underlying problems such as drugs, mental health or unemployment and support so that each person is successfully re-integrated into the local community.
The Cyrenians is a large provider of services for individuals and families in Aberdeen who:
- are in a wide range of community care categories (including alcohol, drugs, mental health and older people)
- are formerly young people who have been looked after
- are in the criminal justice system
- have been subjected to domestic violence
and - are homeless or at risk of homelessness
The Cyrenians cater for specific groups of homeless people including 16 to 25 year olds who have left care, young single people in crisis, rough sleepers, older people and women of all ages.
Services focus on:
- Prevention of homelessness - through advice, information and education programmes
- Alleviation of homelessness - at our day centre and in short-term accommodation (40 places)
- Rehabilitation - tackling underlying issues such as alcohol, drugs, mental health and abuse
- Resettlement - practical help to gain employment, to learn the skills needed to live in the community and to sustain a tenancy
The staff work to support clients to meet their basic needs and realise their potential by providing support, advice, practical assistance or even just a listening ear.
The Cyrenians currently have three residential projects; three Cyrenians supported accommodation services (CSAS) of individual flats; a community resettlement, support and advice service (CRSAS); and the Integrated Community Drug Rehabilitation Service (ICDRS).
The Cyrenians have recently established their first design and print led social enterprise Iceberg Arts.
