About Grampian CareData

Who is Grampian CareData for?

Grampian CareData is a local community, care and health information service, originally set up in 1989, for the people of Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and Moray (the former Grampian Region) in the North East of Scotland.

It is intended to serve the interests and needs of the whole community but is designed especially for:

  • Older people
  • People with physical disabilities
  • People with learning disabilities
  • People with sensory impairments
  • People with a medical condition
  • People with mental health problems
  • Carers, friends or relatives
  • Caring professionals

We hope that every person in the community will find our information service to be helpful.

What kind of information does Grampian CareData hold?

Grampian CareData holds, or signposts to, information such as:

  • NHS Services - doctors, dentists, health services, hospitals
  • Social Services - meals on wheels, home care services, respite care
  • Voluntary Groups - self help and support groups
  • Leisure and Recreation facilities - particularly for people with disabilities
  • Local Authority and Public services - public utilities, council services
  • Education and Training - special education, community education, schools
  • Housing - sheltered housing, residential care, housing departments

Where does the information come from?

We gather and organise the mass of information available on the wide range of community and health services. We collect information from services and groups in the statutory and voluntary sectors and ensure that it is kept up to date.

In the years since its inception, Grampian CareData evolved to become the primary agency in gathering and disseminating local community care information in the North East of Scotland. In recent years, however, the funding organisations have launched and developed their own web sites and on them are now publishing much of the information previously held by Grampian CareData.

Following a review in 2005, new software allows the Grampian CareData service to signpost to high quality information held on other web sites rather than holding a full record, avoiding duplication of effort and ensuring consistency of information. Links are checked and, if changed or moved, are updated by the CareData team although updating the information held elsewhere is the responsibility of the publishing organisation.

All information collected is held according to the Data Protection Act and our Data Protection Statement.

How is the information provided?

In addition to Grampian CareData on-line, we offer a free and confidential service by telephone on 01651 872727.

  • We can answer your enquiries over the telephone or via email
  • We can print out the information you need and send it to you
  • We can research your enquiry, send the information to you or call you back at a convenient time

Grampian CareData is funded jointly by the Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City Councils and NHS Grampian with support from Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service (ALIS)
