Services

North East Sensory Services (NESS) offers a social work and rehabilitation service to people with a serious sight / hearing loss and the Deaf community in Moray. The service is based in Elgin but fieldworkers cover the whole area.

Grampian Society for the Blind was founded in 1879 and is run by a voluntary board which includes service users. In late 2010 GSB adopted the operational name of North East Sensory Services. NESS offices are situated in Aberdeen and Elgin although the majority of the work is carried out in peoples’ own homes.

NESS has a wide range of informative leaflets available and assistance is given with claiming all relevant benefits. Several clubs and groups run throughout the area, including self help and special groups as well as social gatherings.

NESS provides specialist services for visually and hearing impaired people in Moray, offering advice and on-going support in all aspects of coping with any degree of sight loss. Special assistance can be provided in mobility, communication, daily living and low vision aids as well as more general welfare services. Services include:

  • Social work and rehabilitation services, mostly at home but some centre based (under contract to the local authority)
  • Mobility - adults and children
  • Social activities, including Groups and Clubs which meet throughout the area
  • Information
  • Resource centre in the Elgin office with aids and adaptations
