Services

Royal Voluntary Service Aberdeenshire volunteers provide practical and social solutions to the problems of loneliness, isolation and dependence found in local communities across the UK. Royal Voluntary Service works with a range of organisations including social services and other charities to ensure people are helped in the best possible way.

Members of the Royal Voluntary Service, in partnership with the public and private sectors, are committed to being the premier providers of voluntary assistance to those in need of care within their local community. It is a large, practical, voluntary organisation and volunteers are recruited from all age groups and walks of life within the community.

Royal Voluntary Service operates the following services in Aberdeenshire.

Good Neighbours and Community Transport

Good Neighbours and Community Transport includes Good Neighbours, an assisted Shopping Service and Community Transport.  The service provides people in need with the kind of informal help a friend or relative might give.  The informal help may include, but not limited to, the following: companionship, befriending, shopping either accompanied or done by a volunteer on behalf of customer, transport to health appointments, visiting friends or outings.

Minibus Group Shopping

Minibus group shopping is arranged monthly from Sheltered Housing complexes in Balmedie, Oldmeldrum, Insch, Blackburn, Alford, Kemnay and Kintore.  It provides an opportunity for older people to maintain independence.

Home Library Service

The Home Library Service offers customers a vital link to the local library as volunteers bring a selection of books, talking books and multimedia to their home.  It provides a visit from a friendly face who can also check on the safety and well-being of the older person in the home and make them feel included in their community.

On Ward Community based Hospital Service

The On Ward Community based Hospital Service helps to improve wellbeing and promote independence of older people, strengthening their links to existing services within local community hospitals in Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Turriff, Banff, Insch, Huntly, Inverurie, Aboyne, Banchory and Stonehaven.  The On Ward support includes befriending and encouragement at Protected Meal Times, low level practical and emotional support during a stay in hospital and heritage memories activities.  The home support includes collecting prescriptions, shopping and support at outpatients appointments.

Trolley Services

Trolley Services operate in Ythanvale, Inchmarlo and Huntly Care Homes.  This involves a friendly face going round the hospital, offering companionship and the opportunity to purchase something to make a hospital stay easier.

Social Groups

Social Groups include Newburgh Ythan Cronies and Ythanvale Craft group.  This provides an opportunity to meet people and learn a new skill.
