Under the Education (Scotland) Act 1981, the educational psychology service is a mandatory provision with prescribed functions concerned with the problems experienced by children and with the giving of psychological advice to parents, teachers and social workers.
A major role of the Educational Psychology Service is to involve the parents in discussion and planning and to ensure that they have maximum information on specialist provision and facilities available.
