Under the Education (Scotland) Act 1981, the educational psychology service is a mandatory provision with prescribed functions concerned with the problems experienced by children and with the giving of psychological advice to parents, teachers and social workers. A major role of the Educational Psychology Service is to involve the parents in discussion and planning and to ensure that they have maximum information on specialist provision and facilities available. The service has developed strong working links with other agencies ensuring that parents and children can be guided and helped by the most appropriate service.
